Relocate to the South Kootenay

It's About Lifestyle & Community

Relocating is often driven by a lifestyle choice. SKP's (South Kootenay People; -pronounced escapees) frequently relocate to the region for a better job, a safer community, a healthier environment or to be closer to loved ones. Moving to a new community is often a huge step for most of us, and especially for families. These pages are designed to simply be a starting point for people thinking of relocating.

First Steps

Most new SKP's visit during their summer or winter vacation, love the lifestyle, then decide to relocate. Potential SKP's can benefit by writing a list of needs, then determining if their needs will be met on their first vacation. While you are here, enjoy all the region has to offer, but try set aside time for your "list of needs".

For example; if you will be looking for work and housing, scan the newspapers and job boards. You will meet lots of friendly people, so try to remember to ask about work and housing in conversations as well. Visit the local real estate agents for an exploratory visits to see what the market currently offers. Working couples with children may want to visit the Child Care Resource & Referral Centre if they need child care, or the local schools, parks, playgrounds and other family venues. No matter what your reason to relocate, we know you will quickly feel a sense of belonging in our safe, friendly communities.
