CommitteesThe Lower Columbia Community Development Team Society (LCCDT) is comprised of committees that meet regularly to support specific projects and objectives identified and endorsed by the LCCDT Board. The Board consists of local government, business, non-government organizations and Chairs of the LCCDT working committees. Working committees are dynamic entities that evolve as old objectives are met and new ones are discovered. The following provides a brief overview of the current LCCDT Society and Working Committees, as well as contacts and links to Terms of Reference where available.
LCCDT Society Chair: Craig Adams Purpose: To advance the economic strength of the Lower Columbia by overseeing the development and cooperative implementation of developmental initiatives important to the area.
Attainable Housing Committee Chair: Janet Morton Purpose: The Attainable Housing Committee will identify existing housing related initiatives and collect, maintain and share housing related data in the LCCDT area. The committee will act as a catalyst to facilitate a regional planning process and prevent duplication of services.
Energy Committee [Terms of Reference] Chair: Kelvin Saldern Purpose: The Energy Committee will Identify business opportunities in energy and those arising from community energy planning. The committee will advocate for a progressive energy policy and act to identify and champion energy projects.
Health & Hospital Committee Chair: Don Nutini Purpose: The primary goal of the Health & Hospital Committee is to insure the long-term sustainability of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital as a modern and efficient institution for the benefit of all residents in the Kootenay Boundary region. The committee will recommend and prioritize capital projects and liaise with health groups with similar interests.
Metallurgical Committee Chair: Craig S Adams Purpose: The Metallurgical Committee will support and encourage development of the region's “metallurgical cluster” including mining, metallurgical, environmental and related service industries. The committee will encourage and support innovative practices and business development in the metallurgical cluster by businesses and/or entrepreneurs.
Tourism Committee Chair: Al Graham Purpose: The Tourism Committee will work collaboratively to develop a multi-community and multifaceted approach to strengthen tourism within the region. The committee will examine trends, market opportunities and challenges based on existing products, potential products, community infrastructure and resources to create a common strategy and implementation plan to promote tourism within the region.
Workforce Renewal Committee Chair: Wake Williams Purpose: The Workforce Renewal Committee will facilitate and advocate for strategies to attract, retain and train a vital local workforce. The committee will continue to advocate for the continuation, maintenance and development of a regional website that provides information on lifestyle and learning opportunities that serve to attract and retain workers and their families.
North South Corridor Committee [Terms of Reference] Chair: Jack McConnachie Purpose: The North South Corridor Committee works to encourage discussions on both sides of the Canadian/American border to co-operatively construct a low elevation North/South transportation corridor linking Washington State to the Trans-Canada Highway.
