Robert Felsch and his wife Robyne came to Canada in 1999 for a skiing holiday. They visited Rossland and liked what they saw: "It had a nice feel about," recalls Robert. "We thought others would likely feel the same way."
As a developer back home in Australia with an eye for latent opportunity, Robert acted on his instincts and kicked off a trend that is changing the face of Rossland.
He began with a modest 4-unit development near the new hotel development that was underway and close to the home he had purchased at Red Mountain. The hotel folded but by then with 10 acres of land, ambitious plans and lots of hope, he was committed. He was encouraged by Rossland City council, impressed by the clear guidelines and timeline commitments spelled out by the administrator of the day, Andre Carrel, and the water and sewer connections that were already in place.
Then changes at City Hall dragged out the process; the first three years was a test of survival. But as the development began to take shape the compliments began rolling in. "I didn't expect pats on the back, " said Felsch. "But I feel I am contributing to this community, and those compliments are a big bonus."
Today 57 units are done with about 16 more to go. Felsch is confident that the market is still young: "The hardest part was selling those first few units. Buyers like company, the more sold the easier it gets."
With his plans at Red near completion Felsch is moving on to the Redstone residential golf development, from winter to summer in the seasons of Rossland.
