South Kootenay people have a passion for outdoor Recreation and Sport that is hard to beat elsewhere. You can take your sport to the limit here or take it easy- there's something for everyone. Fantastic Skiing and mountain biking are at your doorstep and the community is filled with like minded people doing the same as you - living their lives!

 

Call up your friends at a moments notice and you're guaranteed a golf, skiing or biking partner. There is no shortage of lakes and rivers nearby making every form of water sport available. There are superior Golf courses at every turn with lush green fairways, professional staff and wildlife to glimpse.

 

Every town has recreation programs, facilities and special events. Here you will find a well utilised hockey arena, swimming pool, gymnasium and rec centre with new programs continuously on offer. Pilates, yoga, gymnastics, dancing, figure skating to name a few. Hockey is well supported, with Trail being home to the famous Trail Smokeaters. Even non-followers of hockey will find a Smokies game exciting!

 

Trail home to the wonderful new  Aquatic & Leisure Centre which features a 25 metre lap pool, large kids pool with water features and a huge hot tub - (good for tired muscles). There is also a thrilling water slide, diving boards, and other fun apparatus for kids to hang and jump off! Quite amazingly it is rarely crowded and more often than not you can be assured of a familiar face to hang with. There is much to offfer at this facility including a well equipped gym and a steam room.

 

The South Kootenay is a hub for active people and all forms of outdoor recreation can be enjoyed within a 1/2 hour drive in any direction. Not only are the facilities, hiking and biking trails, and venues superbly maintained by the locals, but you can get all the latest gear you need at the local shops. Shopping for sporting equipment is a unique experience: staff and store owners are generally experts in their field, know the area and what it has to offer, and will provide you with great advice and information; -look for them out there after they finish work!
