Many Canadian provinces have agreements with the Government of Canada that allow them to nominate candidates for Permanent Residence in Canada. The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program allows the province to nominate the types of immigrants the province requires. Provincial nominee application are normally processed much faster than regular applications. The BC PNP program has the following priority categories:
- Skilled Worker class is for skilled individuals who have a guaranteed job offer and are qualified to work in selected occupations where there is a persistent shortage of qualified workers in British Columbia. Note that applications are submitted by the employer.
- Regional Business class applicants are willing to write a business plan and start and actively manage a business that creates two new jobs within two years. At this time, applicants must have a net worth of at least $600,000 Canadian and invest a minimum of $300,000 Canadian in their business. This category doesn't apply if you intend to live or operate your business out of the Greater Vancouver area.
- Project class is designed to assist companies with the timely entry of skilled, key managers and key technical professionals essential to the success of a business expected to generate significant economic benefits to British Columbia.
- Health Care Professionals class is for Registered Nurses, Physicians and Midwives. Due to the well-documented critical shortage of Registered Nurses and Physicians in the province of British Columbia a separate category exists for these health care professionals. See the bottom of the Skilled Worker page for more details.
- International Students class is for international student and is designed to assist employers in recruiting academically strong graduates who are expected to meet the future skill needs of their organizations.
