In 1997 Liz Arsenault came from Australia to visit her sister and "fell in love with BC," and also with the man who would be her husband. Having grown up in the city, the "work and play" lifestyle of rural BC was something she had never imagined actually existed.
Liz returned back to Melbourne Australia to her job as production manager for Glenvale Publications where she worked for up to fourteen hours per day. The job was high-stress and "good for the career girl." Liz enjoyed it but could not get the images and thoughts of of BC out of her mind. The "catalyst" for her to leave was actually a car crash. Though she wasn’t seriously hurt, it got her thinking. "I looked to myself and I said, ‘What am I doing?’ I kept looking through my pictures of visiting BC and thought, ‘this is crazy,’ so I picked up and left.’"
She came to Canada and married Ken Arsenault. They went back to Australia but then were "drawn back" to BC; Ken got a job at Red Mountain and they bought a house over the internet and came back, where they are happily settled now. "I never want to live in a city again," Liz says. "It’s so beautiful to go to work and live and have friends amongst people in an environment that’s like being on holiday every day, even after 5 or 6 years."
