The best place to check out the housing market in the South Kootenay is on MLS (Multiple Listing Service) online. The local realtors are very helpful, even across the miles and are listed at MLS by area. The real estate market experienced a bit of a slump in the 1990's and the price of homes and rent were very low. The trend has reversed and the South Kootenay region is now on an upward climb with rising real estate prices and many exciting new developments in the region.
New Real Estate DevelopmentsNew development at Red Mountain and the Rossland Golf Course has already increased the cost of housing in the area but affordable, quality housing is still available. The value for money aspect is great and while interest rates are low now is the time to buy into this area or build your dream home. The 2010 Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver will further generate interest in Red Mountain. Olympians Nancy Green Raine and Kerrin Lee Gartner both trained on the Rossland hill and skiiers world-wide praise it for its deep powder and incredible tree skiing.
