The City Of Trail was founded in the 1890's as a supply point to the mines operating in the nearby mountains.
In 1896, a small smelter was built and provided the base for the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd.
From this small beginning Teck Cominco Ltd. has grown to become a world class mining company and a hugely contributing community supporter.
Trail is also rich with sporting History and is famous for the locally grown and legendary Trail Smoke Eaters who beat the national teams of eight countries between 1938 and 1961 and were voted the top Canadian sports team of the century by the sportscasters.
Catch a 'Smokies' game during the hockey season at the Cominco Arena. While you are there take a stroll through the Trail Sports Hall of Fame in the Trail Memorial centre to see the hockey and Babe Ruth Baseball sports memorabilia.
