Trail and area is very fortunate to have a wide range of high quality health facilities available. A first rate 138 bed Regional Hospital provides modern technological diagnostic equipment including a CAT Scanner, Renal Unit, ICU as well as a large range of treatment programs. Recent health care restructuring has seen the Trail Regional Hospital become the center of health care for the Kootenay area. Trail's health care professionals include many very highly trained specialists in their chosen fields.

The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services, general surgery, internal medicine, Orthopedics, Psychiatry and High-level laboratory (level three) and radiology/diagnostic imaging services. Most of the smaller towns in the South Kootenay have a physician, dentist and drugstores, but the main concentration of specialists, physicians and health services are located in Trail. The Medical Services Building in downtown Trail houses the offices of most of the clinics.
